Pastor Barry Cole Poyner may have some explaining to do next Sunday in church, the 57-year-old man is being accused of using food and gas to coerce college men into sexual relationships.
The acts took place on the popular gay date app Grindr, Where Barry Poyner who teaches at Truman State University was outed by a student and later the target of an undercover officer.
A message the police officer from Barry Poyner detailed his desire to have a “sugar daddy relationship” Poyner offered to fIll the undercover officer’s gas tank and receive sex in return.
Barry Poyner didn’t stop with gas money he also generously offered to throw in an Arby’s gift card to sweeten the deal.
Following his arrest Barry Poyner was hit with Patronizing prostitution, if convicted he could face up to 6 months in jail. Truman State University took immediate action and suspended Barry Poyner.
The Church of Christ where Poyner is alleged to be an elder has made homophobic remarks in the past, so it is ironic to see one of their own caught in this scandal.
Life will never be the same for the college professor, one can’t help but think maybe he would have been okay if he’d offered a better place to eat besides Arby’s maybe he’s not in this situation today?
