In 2017, Tommia Dean, a black woman who was a cheerleader at Kennesaw State University, was kicked off the squad. This was after she peacefully knelt to protest the constant racism and police brutality in our country. This was sadly not surprising to see as Kennesaw is a very Republican area of Georgia which is north of Atlanta. KSU also cut three other cheerleaders for kneeling.
Now, Dean is rightfully getting paid after how disgustingly KSU treated her for no reason at all.
Former KSU President, Sam Olens and Scott Whitlock and Matt Griffin from the athletics department were listed as defendants in the original lawsuit. The document which reached the settlement was signed by Dean and a rep from the state department on October 25. Cobb Sheriff Neil Warren and former state Rep. Earl Ehrhart were included in the lawsuit but were not involved in the settlement.
