Two days ago marked the 20-year anniversary of ‘Next Friday’ one of most iconic movies of all time as it’s part of the Friday movie series that started back in 1995 and starred Ice Cube, Chris Tucker, snd John Witherspoon. Cube took to Instagram today to praise the anniversary of the film along with honoring the late John Witherspoon.
Back in October, Witherspoon passed away at his Sherman Oaks, CA home due to a heart attack as a result of coronary heart disease. Cube’s post displayed a photo of Witherspoon from Next Friday with the caption “20 years since Next Friday. Miss you pops.” This was definitely fitting as Witherspoon was one of the funniest cast members in the Friday series along with an amazing man, a great comedian and an actor overall. In this film, Witherspoon played the role of Willie Jones, Cube’s uncle.
Witherspoon is also known for appearing in the Wayans Bros, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Boomerang, Dr. Doolittle 2, Soul Plane, Little Man, Martin, The Tracy Morgan Show, and more. RIP to a legend. A final Friday movie was supposed to come out next year but makers of the film were slow to approve things which has since left Cube frustrated.
