Jamie Frontz, the 36-year-old Russian woman who alleges she was punched in the face by star boxer Sergey Kovalev, claims that she needed four screws and a plate in her neck to repair the damage.
Frontz claims the assault happened after the two met at the opening of a boxing gym in Big Bear, California, in June 2018, and Fontz rebuffed Kovalev’s sexual advances.
Frontz described in a conversation with TMZ Sports in graphic detail how the incident went down.
According to Frontz, Kovalev and her were making out a couch in Frontz’s rented cabin we Kovalev got too aggressive. Frontz then claims that’s when she started to pull away from Kovalev.
Frontz’s dog then jumped onto the couch to intervene between the two, and Kovalev shoved the animal to the ground, and Frontz screamed for Kovalev to leave immediately, which angered Kovalev.
Kovalev then took out his anger out on the dog and kicked it in the chest.
After kicking the dog, Kovalev turned his attention to Frontz and punched her in the face with a closed fist.
When he punched me, my nose exploded,” Frontz says. “Blood went everywhere. There was blood all over the cabin. All over the walls. All over the carpet. All over everything.”
The former light heavyweight champion did severe damage to Frontz, who claims the punch caused a broken nose, a concussion, and facial lacerations.
The worst of the injuries, though, according to Frontz, was the whiplash that the punch caused, resulting in a herniated disc and a tingling sensation down her arm that felt like “fire ants.”
I literally was scratching holes in my arm until they bled because what he had done to my neck.”
Frontz has required four major surgeries to alleviate the issue, resulting in four screws and a plate in her neck.
Frontz filed a lawsuit against Kovalev for $8 million after the alleged attack last year, but the two settled for $650,000 in October.
However, Frontz claims that she’s only received $250,000 of that money, so she is suing Kovalev again.
Kovalev was arrested and charged with felony assault for the incident, though he’s since pled not guilty. If convicted, he faces up to four years in prison. That case is still pending.
