As a basketball player, if you often find that you are almost always benched, don’t give up; you can still become the best player on your team. Every player, even the best players can become better, and there is always room for improvement. The best players in NBA did not become the best players due to luck; they became the best players because they kept improving their skills. If you follow the ways that are outlined below, you too can become a great basketball player, you can see first-hand your skills becoming better over time.
Fear of failure – Most basketball players who do not make it to the next level do so because they have an inherent fear of failure. Once you are afflicted with this fear it is but natural that you will not try and if you do not try you can never become something that you wish for. To improve your skills, you need to fail, you need to know your weaknesses, only when you know your weaknesses you will be able to convert it into strength. Do not think about what others may think about you, to get to the pinnacle, you have to fall, you need to get up and try again and again. Use your failures as stepping stones and success will be easily attained and it will be sweet.
Role and position – You should have thorough knowledge of your role and position. If you think role and position are the same, you are wrong, they are different. Your role is what you need to do for the team to win, whether you should be defensive or offensive etc. Whereas your position can be point forward, centre, power forward, shooting forward etc. Each position demands a different skill set and you need to practice and improve those skill sets and it will set you apart from the rest of the players.
Blame game – According to lines.com, many basketball players who are earmarked for greatness never reach the pinnacle and fall by the wayside because they start to believe that they can do no wrong. The failures are all attributed to others, other teammates, their coaches, other distractions etc., it’s never about them. Failures will happen but you should not blame others, take it on the chin, get counsel from the coaches, team mates and support staff. Learn from the failures and go forward. Remove thoughts that are negative and remove every distraction. Focus on your goal and go for it with determination and you will be successful and you can end up as one of the all-time greats to ever play the game.
Effort – The great players never ease up. They put their best foot forward for all games, be it a practice match or a championship final. If you see the training regimen of any of the great players you will see that they do not ease up at all. They will never take it for granted; they know it can affect their performance as well as the team’s performance. This sort of effort is needed to become a great player.
