Despite the 3-1 and 3-2 track record blowing a series lead, Philadelphia 76ers new head coach Doc Rivers is in the city of brotherly love. The question becomes will the city show that same love after “trust the process” chants failed to live up to its titles hopes? Rivers parted ways with the Los Angeles Clippers after blowing a 3-1 lead against the Denver Nuggets who could be a prominent threat in the West if their defense improves.
Former basketball player and Detroit Native Rashad Phillips is sold Rivers will go all in to trade point forward Ben Simmons for value in return.
“Doc Rivers is going to try an trade Ben Simmons to Minnesota for the number 1 pick and take Lamelo Ball in Philly. Good chess move Doc. #TalkSoon,” Phillips proclaimed via twitter.
Phillips made a solid point giving his take on the point guard position in Philly that wasn’t embraced since Allen Iverson put guys on skate with his killer crossover. Although Iverson was a shooting guard, the ball in his hand to dictate the offense would make sense why people still view him as a point guard.
“Philly hasn’t had a box office attraction at the PG poison since Iverson. LaMelo brings the fan appeal. It’s a win win for both teams. It’s worth the chance. The Embiid and Ben experiment has ran its course in Philly. #Yoda.”
Ball is a pure scorer with upside and provides what Simmons lack at the perimeter. Simmons can slash but the wait for him to develop a jump shot could make Rivers look bad.
Rivers is in dealing with his fourth NBA roster where he has two top 15 players at their position with superstar status. Currently, Rivers is 1-2 as a head coach with a roster favored to either win the western or eastern conference. What will it mean if the man can’t get it done as the city awaits it breakthrough?
