How Angela Bassett Inspired Erica As A Kid
Peeples applauded the iconic NCAAP Image Award winner Angela Bassett who paved the way for her in terms of inspiring her.
“First was Angela Bassett. So I’ll never forget I saw Angela Bassett in the movie “What’s Love Got to Do with it” when she played Tina Turner. I think I was like eight or nine maybe seven…and I said that’s what I want to do. I want to be just like her. I watched all of her movies…everything she did I wanted to act like Angela Bassett. So she was the first one that inspired me.” She still inspired me along the way but as I learned more about acting and as I started delving into it, um…Viola Davis was a huge influence. She also went to Juliard and she’s an amazing actor.”
Like Bassett, Peeples doesn’t get her credit as she landed a role in The CW TV series “All American” and also starred in other notable TV series. Bassett portrayed the mother of Biggie and Michael Jackson, Tina Turner’s role, Betty Shabazz, Rosa Parks and much more. Because she looks up to Bassett and Davis, Peeples will soon find herself with a reputation that no one can resist. Someone is watching Peeples and she might not know a young Black girl wants to be the next Erica Peeples.
