On Monday night, the Indiana Pacers had their toughest match throughout seven games defeating the New Orleans Pelicans 118-116 in OT.
Malcolm Brogdon’s 21 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds were needed to escape Brandon Ingram’s savvy performance of 31 points and eight assists.
Throughout the first quarter, the Pelicans cut off Brogdon’s ability to drive to the basket forcing him to make passes or take difficult contested shots. Ingram proved he was on offensive threat taking advantage of the mismatch down low sinking 15-footers.
The biggest play of the night was Victor Oladipo draining a 29-foot three trailing with 19.6 seconds in the fourth quarter. Oladipo and Doug McDermott trapped Lonzo Ball who had the ball stolen resulting in Myles Turner sinking a three to tie the game.
Turner and Oladipo combined for 42 points and Brogdon sealed the deal in OT with a go-ahead right hand floater with 1.7 seconds left on the clock.
“It was pretty simple,” Brogdon said of the winning basket. “Coach (Nate Bjorkgren) trusts me with the ball. He wanted me to get it, get to my spot and make the last shot. I got to my spot and it dropped,” per ESPN.
Indiana improved to a 5-2 record and head coach Nate Bjorkgren is on the right path in his first season.
