Can you imagine actually being upset at anything other than the performance of your team after not making the playoffs after a 6-10 season in the NFL?
Well, that’s where Joe Judge, head coach of the New York Giants, finds himself after the Philadelphia Eagles loss to the Washington Redskins on Sunday night, sealing the Redskins as the 2020 NFC East Champs.
The Giants needed to beat the Dallas Cowboys in their week 17 matchup, which they did. They also needed the Washington Redskins to lose, which looked like it may happened as the game entered the final quarter with the Redskins up just 17-14.
But at the start of the fourth quarter the Eagles benched their starter Jalen Hurts, who was a backup himself, in favor of third string quarterback Nate Sudfeld. Things did not go well for Sudfeld and the Eagles would go on to lose 20-14.
Judge mentioned in an interview Monday he was disgusted by how the Philadelphia Eagles disrespected the game
What Judge fails to mention specifically is that the Giants lost to the Eagles earlier this year in a game they were WINNING 21-10 in the fourth quarter, perhaps they should be embarrassed by their own effort. Giants Tight End Evan Engram, had a game sealing first down right in his hands but dropped the pass, giving the Eagles the opportunity to score and win. It is also worth mentioning, on the ensuing drive, the Giants had the Eagles on third and goal from the 23 yard line, they then gave up a 23 yard touchdown pass to surrender the lead.
Judge’s comments about working hard and sacrificing so much also seems disingenuous to the quarterback who was put into the game, Nate Sudfeld. It is not as though the Eagles picked a random person from the stands to put into the game. Nate Sudfeld has been in all the same meetings, followed the same protocols, sacrificed all of his time with his family just like all other NFL players, to suggest he didn’t deserve the opportunity to play is perfectly contradictory to everything he mentioned in his minute long rant which seemingly lacked any sense of accountability.
