It’s amazing how life comes full circle.
During the Chiefs and Bucs week 12 match-up, Tyreek Hill went OFF against the Buccaneers defense, he has 200 yards in the FIRST quarter and finished the game with three touchdowns and over 250 yards receiving.
On the back end of one of Hill’s touchdowns, he threw up his signature peace sign to rookie safety Antoine Winfield Jr. as he crossed the goal line. On his following touchdown, Hill stopped just before crossing the goal line and did a backflip into the end zone. Yea, Hill was having a lot of fun in that game.
Not so much in the rematch in Super Bowl 55.
As Antoine Winfield Jr. made what on the surface looked to be the game sealing deflection on a ball intended for Hill, Winfield taunted Hill but putting the deuces in his face. Subsequently, he was tagged with a 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct. But it had little effect on the outcome of the game.
Winfield was absolutely unapologetic afterwards.
“The taunting, man, it’s something I just had to do,” Winfield said. “When we played them earlier, Hill went off on us. He back-flipped in front of my face and gave me the peace sign. So it was only right that I gave him the peace sign right back to him. It felt amazing to do that. I’m not even gonna lie.”
Unsportsmanlike conduct penalties usually are accompanied by a fine, but Super Bowl victories are accompanied by bonus’ as well as a Super Bowl Ring, I’m sure Winfield Jr. will take that trade-off.
