2021 has been a deadly year.
Mass shootings and homicides are happening at an alarming rate, especially in Texas.
Authorities on Sunday identified Zamar Kirven, 21, of Mart, as the man charged with murder after a shooting overnight that left two people dead.
Authorities identified the victims as 22-year-old Sabion Kubitza and 20-year-old Jacob Ybarra. The McLennan County Sheriff’s Office said the men were killed in the same house and may have been asleep at the time they were killed.
The shooting happened at 2 a.m. Sunday morning in the 1100 block of Texas Avenue, across from the Western Hotel.
Kirven was recruited by the University of Houston, where he played at the linebacker position in 2018 and 2019. The Houston Chronicle reports Kirven was released by the football program in 2020 “due to a violation of team rules.”
Investigators say the suspect knew the victims, who all grew up together playing high school football.
He is being charged with capital murder.
