A lot of cops do some very shiesty stuff when it comes to trying to get people in prison. This backfired on one cop in Florida though, which is 28-year-old Zachary Wester.
According to the Tallahassee Democrat, Wester was sentenced on Tuesday to 12 years and six months in prison for planting drugs at three separate traffic stops. He was originally convicted back on May 19. Wester worked at the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office from 2016 to 2018. Prosecutors originally wanted Wester in prison for 15 years
Prosecutors went on to drop 119 cases that Wester was involved in as a cop. The victims that he tried to frame have been identified as Teresa Odom, Joshua Emanuel and Steven Vann. In Odom’s incident, Wester brought a “baggie” to their car.
“With that great power comes great responsibility,” said state attorney Tom Williams at the sentencing hearing. “The defendant made choices to violate that trust and committed crimes against those people he was sworn to protect.”
The total list of charges that Wester was hit with was one count of racketeering, three counts of official misconduct, three counts of perjury, three counts of fabricating evidence, four counts of possession of a controlled substance, three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of false imprisonment.
