Indiana Fever Holds Betnijah Laney To 3-Of-12 Shooting After First Quarter; Defeats NY Liberty 82-69

The Indiana Farmers Coliseum was electrified on Friday night after the Indiana Fever defeated the New York Liberty 82-69.

This was the Fever’s second win of the season and it started with a collective effort on the defensive end.

20 turnovers for the Liberty turned into transition points on the Fever end attacking the rim.

“Hard to say. I really don’t know. … I don’t know why we weren’t sharp. It’s very frustrating,” Liberty coach Walt Hopkins told media members.

Liberty is the top 3-point shooting team in the WNBA and they were held to 6-of-23 from the three-point line. It was difficult for Betnijah Laney who scored 23 points given she was forced to find her teammates waiting on the wing to shoot. Laney struggled in the second-half after controlling the pace of the game in the opening of the first-quarter.

Fever’s Kelsey Mitchell scored 20 points with Teaira McCowan recording 15 points and an impressive four blocked shots.

The Fever will go on a four-game road trip before their next home game schedule for Aug. 28 against the Las Vegas Aces.
