Former American football quarterback Brett Favre has missed a deadline to pay $228,000 in interest on welfare money he was paid for a public speaking contract he never fulfilled.
And now, the Mississippi State Auditor Shad White is planning to drag his ass over to the state attorney general’s office a month after Brett Favre was sent a demand letter.
Shad White tweeted:
“My understanding is the AG and the Department of Human Services have given authority to a private attorney to recoup the misspent money. We have been in contact with that attorney and will provide him any information he needs.”
“A little over 30 days ago, my office issued demands on several individuals ordering them to repay misspent welfare money. As I said at the time, if any of those individuals failed to repay the money, the demands will be forwarded to the Attorney General’s Office.”
Total Pro Sports reports that:
Favre may not be facing criminal charges, but the leader of the organization that paid him is awaiting trial in one of Mississippi’s largest embezzlement cases.
Favre was among 10 individuals who were sent letters from state auditor Shad White’s office this month that demanded repayment of tens of millions of dollars connected to the scam.
Reports say between December 2017 and June 2018, Brett Favre was “improperly” paid $1.1 million in welfare funds, but according to Brett, who played for 20 seasons in the NFL, he never received “any money for any obligation that he did not meet” as reports claim.
“I would certainly never do anything to take away from the children I have fought to help!” Favre said in a statement. “I love Mississippi and I would never knowingly do anything to take away from those that need it most.”
