Married Florida Woman Atoya Holmes Shot Her Boyfriend Verdell Goins From Trying to End Their Relationship

This is somewhat of a crazy story.

A Married Miami Gardens woman, Atoya Holmes, has been arrested and charged with 2nd-degree murder with a weapon after she shot her boyfriend twice, which resulted in his death.

Holmes is a former federal corrections officer. According to Local10 news in Florida, the two went to a friend’s house after going to the Dolphins game and got into an argument that turned physical. Holmes says her boyfriend, Verdell Goins, frequently got into altercations that got physical.

A witness said that the two started arguing after Goins told Holmes that he wanted to end their relationship, which has been going on for 7 years, and she got upset.

To add to the mess, she’s married.

Police said the gun used in the shooting was found on the roof of the SUV.

Following Sunday’s shooting, Holmes was arrested on a charge of second-degree murder with a weapon. She is being held without bond.

Goins’ loved ones tell Local 10 that they are devastated about his killing.

“He was a good guy man, he was a good guy. I know that for a fact,” said his cousin Tyrone. “We played ball together from high school. I know he’s a good guy man so I’m just trying to figure out why she would do that to him. I know he isn’t a violent person.”

”I feel bad for the family because losing a loved one isn’t easy,” said Noemi Milian, who lives just a few yards from where the shooting occurred.

Adding to that, she’s been arrested before for shooting her son in the hip after he broke into her place during an argument but wasn’t charged.

The district attorney’s office asked that Holmes be held without bond and were granted that request.
