This is tough for Dwayne Haskins, and I will explain to you why.
When you have a certain reputation, no matter what you do, people will think a certain way about you fairly or unfairly. Haskins has been labeled as immature with a poor work ethic, and that is why he was cut from the Washington Football Team. It didn’t help that there were incidents this offseason with his fiancee allegedly beating him and asking for money back from an ex-girlfriend.
While with the Steelers, the best thing that has happened to him is that nothing has happened to him.
No one from the organization has had anything bad to say about him or his work ethic. Sadly, for Haskins, even though he wasn’t the QB starting last Sunday, that was Mason Rudolph. Haskins has been thrown into some controversy by NFL Reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala. While observing Haskins in pregame warmups, she claims that he was on his phone and threw some bad passes.
Social media is debating if that information was necessary since there is no context to what she saw.
Was Haskins’ throws off because it was terrible weather in Pittsburgh? Was he on his phone because he was changing his music since many players listen to music before the game? How early was this in pregame? Does any of this matter, and shouldn’t the focus be on the QB that actually played terribly in the game Mason Rudolph?
Kinkhabwala said her observation was based on 12 years of watching backup QBs warming up, and in her mind, this shows that Haskins hasn’t grown up.
If we are being honest, only the Steelers know how Haskins has been this season. I would be interested to hear what Mike Tomlin would have to say about these comments. The Steelers possibly will be without Big Ben again next week, so we will have to see if Haskins get a shot to prove himself on the field.
