Brian Kelly leaving Notre Dame after 12 years shocked a lot of football fans and got them wondering what could have influenced his decision to leave.

And now, we know what might have pushed him to leave after 12 years. Brian Kelly’s LSU contract details are out, and it’s wild.

Via Total Pro Sports:

Kelly has spent 12 years at Notre Dame and leaves the program as its all-time winningest coach. It was a sudden move that shocked everybody considering that Kelly had just stated the week before he was not looking to leave. Kelly, who obtained a 113-40 record overall, became the first coach in over 100 years to leave the Fighting Irish of his own volition to take a job at another school.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see why he left, because the contract breakdown shows he got paid handsomely to make this jump. LSU announced that it had signed Brian Kelly to a 10-year contract worth $95 million — plus incentives.

Kelly’s contract with LSU spans over 10 years and increases his pay every two years. The former Notre Dame head coach will start by making $9 million in 2022. That’ll increase to $9.2 million in 2023, $9.4 million in 2025, $9.6 million in 2027, $9.8 million in 2029 and finally $10 million in 2031.

LSU announced that it had signed Brian Kelly to a 10-year contract worth $95 million — plus incentives.

“I could not be more excited to join a program with the commitment to excellence, rich traditions, and unrivaled pride and passion of LSU Football,” Kelly said in a statement. “I am fully committed to recruiting, developing, and graduating elite student-athletes, winning championships, and working together with our administration to make Louisiana proud.” “Our potential is unlimited, and I cannot wait to call Baton Rouge home.”

It’s no doubt that money could have been the force behind Brian Kelly joining LSU. The highest bidder gets the best coach always.
