Another sad story involving guns and senseless violence.

Another young brother loses his life for nothing because there are way too many guns in our society. Another family has to mourn the loss of a child, a brother, and a friend during the holiday season.

When will it stop?

Anthony R. Sweat, the 27-year-old brother of Washington Football Team player Montez Sweat, was killed in a shooting Tuesday evening in Henrico County, according to Crime Insider sources.
Henrico Police said the shooting happened just after 4 p.m. in the 7600 block of Wistar Village Drive. While some people ran away when shots erupted, others remained on the scene the help render aid, but it was too late.

EMS pronounced Anthony, the only victim of the shooting, dead at the scene.

Police confirmed he is from Stone Mountain, Georgia, but added that he was known to have ties to the Richmond area.

Anthony’s death brings the total number of reported homicides for Henrico County up to 25 for 2021. Last year, there were 15.

The crime was one of four different shootings in Chesterfield, Henrico and Richmond that happened within four hours that police are all investigating as homicides.

“It is rough, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families,” he said. “We try to make sure that the players understand that we’re here for them. We do have a team psychologist and she’s available, as well as not just myself but position coaches, coordinators and Malcolm Blacken, who is our director of player development. … We’re there for them.”

Sweat was excused from practice while he dealt with this family tragedy. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
