If someone is happy and decides to go public with his or her newfound love, is that a perfect opportunity to trash them on the internet? At least people should have been happy for Olympic gold medalist Suni Lee when she went Instagram official with her new boyfriend Jaylin Smith but that wasn’t the case.
According to Suni Lee, she received so much racist backlashes after she went public with her boyfriend Jaylin Smith. Suni says that she received racist criticism from some people in the Hmong-American community because her boyfriend Jaylin is Black.
Suni Lee and her boyfriend Jaylin Smith made things Instagram official over the holidays after posting adorable pics of them wearing matching Chrome Hearts hoodies.
Suni took to TikTok thanking one user for creating a video supporting her new relationship with the University of Southern California football star. TikTok user @alixphom posted a video of him clapping in front of a pic of Suni and Jaylin with the caption, “I know that Sunisa will be judged by certain eyes in the Hmong Community because her man is Black. LOVE is LOVE, no matter what race or gender you are. Keep doing you, QUEEN.”
“This makes me so happy. I’ve received so much hate,” Suni replied to the post with a crying emoji. “They support me when it’s beneficial for them, never when it comes to my happiness. Thank you!”
It seems people enjoy trashing Suni Lee a lot because last year, she revealed that she was pepper-sprayed by a stranger in an anti-Asian hate crime.
“I learned that being a public figure also comes with other responsibilities and it’s an honor to use my voice towards positive change”.
I think what people need to understand sadly, is that we live in a trash country. Try not to let the trash pull you down with you, as long as you are happy and the person treats you right, who cares what anyone else has to say.
