The year is 2009 and the Broncos start the season 6-0 and look like real Super Bowl contenders. Now and previous Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is the coach and he’s looking like a real option for coach of the year.
Fast-forward to the end of the year they lose 8 of their last 10 games and end the season 8-8. Turns out they aren’t as good as they or others thought they were.
Now fast-forward to now and former Broncos LB D.J. Williams is talking about exactly how they started out so well. The answer is very simple.
They cheated.
Williams joined the I Am An Athlete podcast to talk about that year and says that the film guy was caught filming practices and the coaches knew exactly what other teams would do. After they got caught, they weren’t as prepared and could only get two more wins.
McDaniels was on the Patriots Spygate staff so it makes sense that he would bring that to the Broncos.
