What would you have done if you were Chris Rock after he got slapped by Will Smith at the 2022 Oscars? Retaliate? Well, Jackson State head coach Deion Sanders asked his players what they would have done if they were in Chris Rock’s shoes?
According to TPS;
The Jackson State head coach got behind the camera at practice Tuesday and had one question for his players and staff: “If you were Chris Rock, how would you have handled ‘The Slap?’”
One coach said he’d handle it, “Just like [Rock] did. Then we might go backstage and have some words.”
Somebody else said, “Aw man, I don’t know If I coulda took that slap like that on national TV.” While a couple others said “You know I’m from Miami, so… it might’ve gotten a little rough.” And that “Chris Rock is a better man than me.”
As for his son, Tigers QB Shedeur Sanders said he’d smack Will Smith in the back of the head when he turned around.
It is really hard to say what any of us would do in that situation because it is a situation that probably only happens once in a lifetime, and Rock was definitely surprised by what Smith did. He was on national tv with millions watching, and he had to act quick things could have gotten really messy really fast. If someone puts their hands on you, you are justified in defending yourself. He could have tackled Smith and beat him up, but then we would be having a lot of different discussions right now. In the end, Rock potentially saved both his and Smith’s career by not reacting and being a professional.
