Following the Oscars slap mess, reports say Chris Rock and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson have been approached to host the Emmys but unfortunately, Chris has turned down the informal offer probably because he doesn’t want to be slapped again by a “Will Smith” via Complex;
According to Deadline, Chris Rock and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson have been approached about hosting the 2022 Emmys in September.
This comes after Will Smith went viral after slapping Chris at the Oscars earlier this year. Chris went on a comedy tour following the incident, where he made some jokes about Will, but he has yet to sit down and fully address the situation.
In April, Rock told a crowd at one of his shows, “I’m OK, I have a whole show and I’m not talking about that until I get paid. Life is good. I got my hearing back.”
According to Deadline, Chris has turned down the informal offer to host the Emmys. The report also casts doubt on The Rock hosting the awards show. Johnson is currently executive producer of the comedy series Young Rock, and he will be promoting his upcoming DC film Black Adam later this year.
It has been reported that the Emmys told Chris Rock that he would be able to make jokes about Will Smith and Jada Pinkett if he wanted, but Rock has other plans.
Chris Rock has made a huge career announcement following the Oscars slap brouhaha and according to him, he’s hosting a joint show with Dave Chapelle in London this year. It makes sense since they’ve all been attacked on stage during shows.
The duo will perform a co-headline gig at London’s O2 Arena on Saturday 3 September, with tickets on sale Friday 10 June.
At the Oscars in March, Chris was slapped across the face by Will after he made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head, seemingly unaware that she suffers from alopecia.
In May, Dave was performing as part of the Netflix Is A Joke Festival at The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles when he was “tackled” by a man who rushed onto the stage.
Chris and Dave’s announcement comes after they each joked about their altercations during an appearance at The Comedy Store in West Hollywood.
During Dave’s performance, he reportedly told Chris: “At least you got smacked by someone of repute. I got smacked by a homeless guy with leaves in his hair.”
Chris reportedly laughed and referred to Will as “soft”.
