Charles Barkley made some comments about Kevin Durant that he needs to win a title as the “bus driver” of the Brooklyn Nets. Kevin didn’t let this comment slide as he fired back at him and referred to him as “Hatin Old Head”.
According to TPS;
Following the Golden State Warriors championship run, Barkley, the NBA Hall of Famer turned popular basketball analyst, said Durant needs to be the “bus driver” of his team to gain respect among the “old heads.”
“Until he is the guy on a championship, we’re not going to ever give him the respect that he probably deserves,” Barkley said on ESPN’s “Get Up!” on Friday. “The game hasn’t changed. Kobe said it, LeBron said it, we’re going to hold him to the same high standard.”
Durant, who has been called out about his legacy plenty of times before, saw those comments and fired back at the hall of fame player on Twitter.
“All this [expletive] is nasty, another terrible analogy from a hatin old head that can’t accept that we making more bread than them. It’s just timing Chucky, don’t hate the playa.”
“[Durant] joined that team that already won a championship, no disrespect, that’s just a fact,” Barkley said.
Durant, who won the league’s MVP award in 2014 with the Thunder and won two Finals MVP awards with the Warriors, decided to leave the Bay Area and sign with Brooklyn alongside Kyrie Irving. It has not worked out in the years since.
This is not the first time KD and Durant have gotten into it.
“All these bus riders, they don’t mean nothing to me,” Barkley said. “If you ain’t driving the bus, don’t walk around talkin’ bout you a champion!”
“All these guys can play. But please don’t tell me you’re a great, great player and you’re averaging 20 (points per game),” argued Barkley.
“When you (are) the bus driver, and you got all the pressure when you have to play well or you going to get the blame, that’s a different animal.
Now, Kevin Durant is correct as well. Barkley, at times, was a bus rider and driver. When he was a rider early in his career with the Sixers, they didn’t win a title, and when he was a rider with the Rockets let in his career they didn’t win a championship. When he was the bus driver in the prime of his career with the Sixers and Suns, they also failed to win titles. You can blame Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Stockton, and Malone all you want, but great players normally figure out a way to win at least one title.
