NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal has shared his thoughts on the high rate of divorce and, mind you, Shaq coughs out $20K each month to his ex-wife Shaunie. According to Shaq, fighting among couples contributes to the high rates of divorce.
According to Essentially Sports;
NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal and his ex-wife Shaunie formed one of the best power couples during their time in the NBA. However, their relationship did not stand the test of time, and the two split.
Since then, Shaq has dated a lot of women, but Shaunie remains to be the only woman he has ever married. On the other hand, Shaunie moved on in life recently after she married Keion Henderson.
Talking in an interview, the 4 time NBA champion gave some tips regarding how couples should approach their relationship. Moreover, he also stressed how fighting leads to high rates of divorce.
Shaq said, “When it comes to marriage, you have to realize that certain things will happen. You’re gonna have a disagreement or argument, you can’t let that pester on, right? Sometimes as a man, you just have to say, okay, and sometimes as a woman, you have to say okay. Like me and my wife, we had a rule. We argue on Thursday, just leave that on Thursday.”
“If you argue, it leads to fighting, and fighting leads to, you know, ya’ll don’t need that. We need to keep together, the divorce rate is way too high,” said the former Los Angeles Lakers star.
Sadly, while it was a good rule of thumb, it didn’t work out for Shaq because he eventually got divorced.
When asked how and why she planned to settle down after so long, Shaunie spoke about the dream she had as a little girl. Shaunie and Shaquille O’Neal parted ways over a decade ago and the celebrity has finally found what she was looking for.
Shaunie Henderson said, “It feels so good to have the partner that you, and that we all dreamed of right as the little girl. You want your hero, your knight in shining armor guy to come along and sweep you off your feet and it took a while to get there. It is a new beginning for me.”
Husband Keion was asked what this new beginning means for him and the couple. Keion talked about being understanding of his partner’s past and how they.
He spoke about understanding that Shaunie will remain the same and no one can change anyone. In addition, he spoke about how he met Shaunie in a church setting.
Keion Henderson said “To realize that she was who she was before I met her. I’ve seen so many people and I get a chance to counsel people, we will marry a person because of who they are and then spend the rest of our lives trying to change them.”
Henderson added that he is determined to let his wife be who she is.
