It was a messy situation during The Hardwood Classic X RecruitLook Summer Finale at the Staley High School gymnasium as the AAU referee got jumped by the head coach, players, and others following an unresolved disagreement.
TPS has more;
Things seemingly got heated after the head coach from one team became unhappy over a call or missed call, so he got in the face of a ref. As that ref tried to keep that coach at arm’s length away from him, he found his arm being punched by a coach who wanted to fight.
The two squared up and it looks like the ref threw the first punch. All hell broke loose on that ref afterward.
Caleb Mcconnell, the ref in the video, explained what happened.
“I had just called a tech right before the camera came to me. That’s why he was pushing up on me like that. F–k another tech at that point. He had to catch one,” McConnell, who says he’s a 9-year referee veteran, explains.
“That coach was just looking for a reason to start something, he couldnt take the ass whooping like a man,” the ref added.
According to another comment, this was the first game for the ref that he officiated.
Here is what happened in the aftermath of the brawl and you might be surprised at the outcome once it was all said and done.
TMZ Sports has learned … law enforcement responded to a call regarding a large crowd fighting in a gymnasium around 9:45 AM on Saturday.
By the time officers responded, the fight had already been broken up … but cops took a report for non-aggravated assault.
We’re told all victims declined to press charges.
