A Scottish man named William Dunn is currently on trial after embezzling a lot of money and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Dunn allegedly embezzled the money from his partner Lynda Grant who is a nurse and was sick in the hospital from a serious brain injury after he was granted power of attorney. He reportedly stole £122,027.15 from her over the course of 2 years while she was in the hospital.
He denies stealing the money and says he invested the money and says Grant and her son talked about reducing her assets to avoid the cost of the care home. To add to this, Grant reportedly talked to her kids about making sure Dunn would be ok in the event she passed away and was planning on giving him £40,000.
To make things even worse, he married a new woman in secrecy at a fancy hotel while Grant was in the hospital. The only reason people found out about the marriage is because Grant’s daughter found a pic from the wedding on Facebook.
Grant has denied everything, and the trial is ongoing.
She said via Daily Record: “I don’t remember that. I wouldn’t have wanted an investment – I don’t do things like that. I’m not dishonest, I wouldn’t cheat anyone out of anything, if I found a fiver I’d hand it in to the police station.”
The witness told prosecutor David McDonald that when she started feeling better she looked at her accounts for the first time in months and noticed then that most of her money had disappeared.
Lynda told the court: “I’m skint now. I can’t remember an exact figure [of how much was left in my accounts when I came out of the care home], it was probably a few hundred. The money that I should’ve had from the sale of my house and my savings, that was gone.”
And when asked by Mr McDonald if she had spoken about reducing her assets and avoiding care home fees, she said: “I’d never have done that. I have no recollection of any conversation about that.”
