NFL training camps are in full swing and we actually get a real football game Thursday night.
One of the bigger stories heading into the season is Baker Mayfield getting traded to the Panthers after spending the first few seasons of his career with the Browns. It was a somewhat ugly breakup because Baker didn’t really have the best season last year but he’s been handling it pretty well.
His wife Emily is doing the same thing.
While doing an IG questionnaire, a fan said they hated how the Baker situation played out and she just responded by saying there’s no ill will on their end because at the end of the day its a business.
From everything we’ve seen so far in training camp, Baker has looked good. He’s said and done all the right things and looks more mature as a player. Looks like he’s on pace to win the starting job over Sam Darnold.
Baker Mayfield and the Panthers completed Day 7 of their training camp on Wednesday in Spartanburg, S.C.
Wednesday again was the continuation of the quarterback competition between Mayfield, the former Browns quarterback, and Sam Darnold. It was Darnold’s turn to work with the first team, while Mayfield mostly worked with the second team.
But as he did on Tuesday, Mayfield produced another highlight throw when he completed a great fade pass to Terrace Marshall Jr. in 7-on-7 work.
A week into practice, the eye test seems to be trending towards Mayfield for the starting job. John Ellis, who hosts The Roar podcast about the Panthers, tweeted that he believes its time to give Mayfield more reps with the first team than Darnold.
Ellis Williams of the Charlotte Observer noted after Tuesday’s practice that Mayfield was gaining momentum after having the better day.
It looks like Baker will get a chance at revenge against the Browns in Week 1 of the season.
