In the aftermath of the crazy finish between the Raiders and the Cardinals.
Kyler Murray went to celebrate with some Cardinals fans who made it out to the game. In the scrum, he was punched in the jaw and slapped in the face, and the cops are now investigating via CBS Sports.
One of the most shocking wins of Week 2 came in Las Vegas, where the Arizona Cardinals came back from a 20-0 halftime deficit to stun the Raiders in overtime 29-23.
A big reason the Cardinals were able to make the comeback is because of Kyler Murray, who not only accounted for two touchdowns in the second half, but he also converted one of the wildest two-point conversions in NFL history (He ran an estimated 83 yards on a play that took 20 seconds and you can see it all by clicking here).
After Byron Murphy returned a fumble 59 yards for the game-winning touchdown in overtime, Murray went straight into celebration mode, but his celebration was cut short after a fan appeared to slap him in the face. In the video below, you can see exactly what happens. At about the 25-second mark, Murray runs to celebrate with fans in the end zone and as he’s giving out some high-fives, a fan in a gray shirt appears to slap him in the face.
olice in Las Vegas said Monday they’re investigating allegations that a fan in the stands struck Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray amid celebrations of Arizona’s 29-23 overtime victory over the Raiders.
Murray was high-fiving front-row spectators at Allegiant Stadium following Byron Murphy’s game-ending fumble return on Sunday when a man appeared to reach out and smack Murray in the face with an open hand.
Video showed Murray appear stunned, but not injured, then attempted to identify the attacker in the mostly happy crowd.
Officer Larry Hadfield, a Las Vegas police spokesman, confirmed that a battery complaint was made about 6:30 p.m. at the stadium. The report was not immediately available.
Hadfield did not name Murray as the reporting person, but confirmed the allegation was that “a spectator at the stadium struck a professional football player.”
Hadfield said a suspect was not immediately identified and an investigation was ongoing.
While it’s possible that the fan was just trying to slap Murray on his shoulder pads and missed, the slowed down version shows that Murray definitely believes that the slap came with ill-intent.
I have watched both versions of the video, and I don’t think the fan was trying to slap him on purpose. In fact, the rougher blow came from the Cardinals fan who accidentally punched Murray in the jaw. It looks like the fan, just like the other fans, was trying to pat Murray on the shoulder and accidentally hit him in the face. I also believe that fan is a Cardinals fan, not a Raiders fan, since it was a mostly Cardinals section.
I am calling no ho harm, no foul on this one.
