Here is what Matt Barnes initially said about the Ime Udoka situation.
He stated what many people were thinking based on the information we had at the time.
“I played in the league for a long time. Anyone in the league could tell you this is a very common situation. This is not new news for people who’ve been in the league or around organizations. I’ve seen it from owners to executives, to coaches, to players, to trainers, to therapists, to dancers, to PR ladies. This is not uncommon.”
Matt asked, “So you’re tryna tell me what Robert Sarver did, and Udoka did are on the same level? Even in the same book? Yet they warranted the same time?” He continued to share that he thought the Celtics made a terrible decision by suspending Ime for the entire NBA season.
After Barnes posted this on Instagram he said he got a call from someone who knew exactly what went on behind the scenes in Boston.
The call shook him so much that he deleted his original post and came out with a new post saying he couldn’t condone what Udoka did and that the situation was much deeper than people knew.
It should have been clear from the beginning that no one gets suspended and potentially fired for just having a consensual workplace affair. If that were the case, half the people at ESPN would be fired already, including some people talking about the situation.
There had to be more to the situation for the Celtics to have an outside firm do an investigation and then suspend Udoka for the entire after they saw the findings from that investigation.
Everyone wants to know what exactly Udoka did do to warrant being the only person getting punished for these affairs.
As Barnes stated, time will tell if all this information is leaked or not.
