The sports world came together Monday night to offer many thoughts and prayers for Bills safety Damar Hamlin after he collapsed in the first quarter of their Monday Night Football game against the Bengals.
The collapse came after Hamlin made a routine hit on Bengals WR Tee Higgins. He made the hit and got up but immediately fell back down, and the medical staff had to administer CPR and an AED to revive him before heading to the local hospital.
The latest update has been he’s breathing on his own 50% of the time, which seems like positive news, given he wasn’t when he first arrived at the hospital.
One of the weird things that have come from this is how much people blame Tee Higgins for the collapse when it was just a freak accident. Higgins feels horrible, given everything that happened, but it isn’t his fault. That hasn’t stopped fans from going after him.
So much so that Hamlin’s father is pleading that people stop blaming Higgins.
Here is an update on Hamlin’s condition.
Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin remains hospitalized in critical condition but showed “signs of improvement” that were observed Tuesday and overnight into Wednesday, according to the team.
The Bills said Wednesday in a statement that Hamlin “is expected to remain under intensive care as his health care team continues to monitor and treat him.”
Jordon Rooney, a friend and business partner of Hamlin’s, told ESPN’s Coley Harvey earlier Wednesday that Hamlin was still sedated at the time, less than two days after he went into cardiac arrest on the field during the Bills’ game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Rooney told Harvey that doctors saw promising readings overnight from Hamlin that they had hoped to see by Wednesday morning. Hamlin’s agent, Ron Butler, told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on Tuesday night that Hamlin’s oxygen levels had improved.
It shouldn’t have even gotten to the point where the family had to say anything about blaming Higgins, but there are many weird people in the world.
