Despite losing his Gators scholarship after rapping the n-word on a viral video, former University of Florida quarterback recruit Marcus Stokes has landed a new scholarship offer from an HBCU according to TMZ Sports;
Stokes revealed on Tuesday that Albany State Univ. — a Historically Black College and University in Georgia — sent the offer his way this week … just over two months after he was embroiled in controversy.
You’ll recall, the four-star recruit lost his future as a Gator in November after he posted a quick video of him singing the n-word on camera on his social media page. He apologized for it afterward, calling it “hurtful and offensive to many people” — but his recruitment skidded to a halt.
Stokes said Tuesday he was “blessed” to receive the new college interest from Albany State — adding in an additional tweet that he was going to “find my home” as National Signing Day kicks off next week.
According to 247Sports, Stokes is also receiving interest from Division II school West Florida — and is planning a visit there this week.
Stokes, rated as one of the best H.S. quarterbacks in the country, starred at Nease High School in Florida the past few seasons … and was initially slated to attend Penn State, before flipping commitments to the Gators.
I honestly don’t know if this is a good or bad thing. I will say this, I don’t think the kid should lose his opportunity to play football somewhere in the country for what he did. Wherever he goes he is going to have to play with a lot of black athletes, so he is going to have to deal with the locker room.
It would be wild if he went to an HBCU for obvious reasons and you have to wonder if Albany State is doing this as some sort of publicity stunt.
