If you’re stuck on a plane for up to seven hours, what would you do? Take a nap? Watch videos on your phone? Come up with games to play with your family or friends? Maybe even grow a little impatient or anxious about being stuck in one place for almost half a day’s worth of time? Well, I can tell you what Damian Lillard would do. He’d take the time to write a new rap song and create a music video. Because that’s exactly what he did.
The Portland Trail Blazers star whose made a name for himself for knocking some of the NBA’s most iconic, logic-defying 3-pointers posted the video via Instagram, which was then shared to Twitter by KOIN News Sports Anchor Brenna Greene. The video showcases the talents Lillard has not only on the court, but off the court as well.
Those who listen closely will notice an allusion made to Gilbert Arenas.
“Shooters in the locker room like we the Wizards,” Lillard says in one lyric of his Blazers.
Lillard also wrote about some of his daily struggles, such as most likely needing to purchase a new outfit for the next day if his bag ends up being stuck on a plane anywhere.
The lyrics “shooters in the locker room like we the Wizards” are referencing the 2009 locker room incident between Gilbert Arenas and Jarvaris Crittenton.
For those who are unfamiliar with the incident in question, or just forgot, Arenas reportedly brought firearms into the Wizards’ locker room and laid them out for teammate Crittenton in what he claimed was a joke. Funny to him, but not to the NBA. The league was quick to hammer a suspension down on Arenas, and even charged him with violating the gun-control laws of Washington D.C.
You can hear the rest of Lillard’s rap in the video below. Warning: there is offensive language mixed in.
