Ex-Patriots Willie McGinest Facing Two Felony Charges For Hitting Man With Bottle at Resturant

Based off the surveillance footage posted by TMZ is anything to go off of, it looks like New England Patriots legend Willie McGinest is about to do some hard time. McGinest was arrested back in December 2022 for the role he played in the beat down of a man at a restaurant located in West Hollywood.

It looks pretty bad on Willie’s part. He didn’t just play a role in the physical altercation, based off the video. He actively started it getting up in the victim’s face and throwing the first punch. Not only that, it also looks like he picked up a bottle and smashed it over the guy’s head.

McGinest is currently facing two charges, both of which carry a maximum of up to four years in prison. The charges are one count of assault with a deadly weapon, and one count of assault by means of force likely to cause great bodily injury. Willie’s arraignment for the case is scheduled for April.

Willie has since apologized for the incident, calling his actions a “lapse in judgement and behavior” on his part according to TMZ.

“To my family, community, friends and youth I mentor. Please know I feel horrible for my actions and take full responsibility.”

Willie was part of the New England Patriots 2015 Hall of Fame class. He has been suspended from his role as an NFL Network analyst following the reports, and has yet to return.

It’s going to take a lot more than a simple apology to get out of this one, I’m afraid. This case is similar, in some ways, to the case being played out regarding New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara. It only takes one mistake, one slip up at that moment, to potentially undo everything you’ve worked your entire career to achieve.
