It’s been a somewhat wild last few days for Ja Morant.
He’s been leading the Grizzlies on the court after the All-Star break, but the off-the-court stuff has everyone talking about him right now.
A few stories have had the sports world talking about Ja and telling him he must leave the street life alone. One was where his mom allegedly called him when she argued with a Finish Line employee/security guard and called for him to come there and handle the employee/security guard. He allegedly showed up nine deep, scared the employee, and then walked away, saying he would find out when he got off.
Another story involves a 17-year-old who Ja played a pickup game with. After the kid threw a ball at Ja, Ja allegedly punched him 12-13 times, then walked away and returned and showed his gun.
According to Ja’s agent and lawyer, both stories are troubling if true, but they aren’t.
They released a statement saying a Washington Post journalist chose to post a blatant lie, and the reports are defaming.
“Today, a Washington Post journalist chose to post a blatant lie to social media, claiming Mr. Morant pointed a gun at a 17-year-old. There was not and is not a basis for this defamatory statement,” Carter statement reads, as published by TANDEM on Twitter. “To be clear – this did not happen and no one claims that it did other than one irresponsible journalist. Her conduct was both unprofessional and reckless. Mr. Morant will defend his name, reputation, and seek legal recourse immediately.”
They also called the incident with the 17-year-old an act of self-defense; he didn’t have a gun, and it also looks like Ja will be taking legal action against the journalist.
One of Ja’s problems is that he once threatened someone with gun play on social media, which is why people assume this might be true.
