Sean “Diddy” Combs was placed in solitary confinement at a New Jersey federal prison after an alleged physical altercation with another inmate earlier this week, according to multiple media reports citing sources familiar with the incident.
Combs, 56, is serving a 50-month sentence at the low-security Federal Correctional Institution Fort Dix for two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. Reports from TMZ, NBC News, ABC News and other outlets said the fight began when another inmate made a remark or insult directed at Combs. The exchange quickly escalated into pushing and punching before prison staff intervened and separated the two men.
Sources described Combs as having “held his own” during the brief scuffle. After the fight was broken up, authorities moved him to solitary confinement, commonly referred to inside prisons as “the hole.” As of the initial reports on Friday, July 24, it was unclear whether he remained in solitary or how long any segregation would last. Disciplinary proceedings could follow and potentially affect good-time credits that have already advanced his projected release date.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons and officials at FCI Fort Dix declined to discuss the matter. A Bureau of Prisons spokesperson said the agency does not comment on disciplinary matters or information about individual inmates due to privacy, safety and security concerns. Representatives for Combs had not issued a public statement on the reports as of Saturday.
Combs was convicted in 2025 on the two prostitution-related counts and sentenced to 50 months. He transferred to Fort Dix in late October 2025 after time spent at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. His projected release date has been adjusted to February 23, 2028, reflecting credits for good behavior and participation in available programs. Any finding that he initiated or participated in a fight could reduce those credits and push the date later.
FCI Fort Dix is a low-security facility located on a military base. Like most federal prisons, it maintains a special housing unit for inmates involved in altercations, under investigation, or requiring protective custody. Placement in solitary typically involves restricted movement, limited contact with other inmates, and reduced privileges while staff assess the incident and determine next steps.
The reports rely on anonymous sources and have not been independently confirmed by official records or on-the-record statements from the Bureau of Prisons. No details have emerged about injuries to either participant, the identity of the other inmate, or any formal charges resulting from the fight.
