Do you remember the viral “entanglement” video between Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith? It happened on the show called Red Table Talk, which is now being completely shut down and taken off Facebook Watch. A Meta representative confirmed that the company is closing its Facebook Watch originals group due to financial reasons, but did not provide any further comment.
The talk show was produced by Westbrook Studios, reportedly owned by Will and Jada Pinkett Smith. However, this may not be the end of the show’s era, as reports suggest they are already searching for a new distributor. So, while it may be gone for now, it’s unlikely to stay gone for long.
Moreover, not many people are likely to miss the platform it was streamed on. With the closure of Facebook Watch, the head of development and programming for the group, Mina Lefevre, is now out of a job.
“Red Table Talk was one of only a handful of original programs still airing on Facebook Watch, but the service once had ambitions to be a major player in the world of streaming content, with buzzy scripted series like Sorry For Your Loss, starring Elizabeth Olsen as a grieving widow, and the mystery Limetown, starring Jessica Biel. Both shows were axed in January 2020 as Facebook Watch moved away from scripted programming to focus on reality series like a reboot of The Real World and the Tom Brady docuseries Tom vs. Time.”
It appears that Meta is currently dedicated to developing virtual reality experiences that can be accessed across three of their platforms. It will be intriguing to see where this endeavor leads.
Although not many are eagerly anticipating its return, Red Table Talk is likely to resurface on a streaming platform soon. Will and Jada’s influence on social media ensures that their family drama will eventually be aired for all to witness.
