Will anyone be held accountable for spreading false rumors about Andrew Wiggins and his leave of absence?
That is one of the problems with social media.
An anonymous account can start a fake rumor, and it will spread like wildfire because people love drama a lot more than they are willing to admit. While people were making memes and speaking about his relationship with his children and their mother, Wiggins has been dealing with his father’s serious medical situation, according to Shams via SI.
Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins’s 22-game absence is because his father, Mitchell, has been working through a “serious medical situation,” The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported Monday.
Wiggins, who has been away from the team since mid-February, was reportedly set to return this week after dealing with a “family matter,” per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Neither Wiggins nor the team have confirmed the reason for his prolonged absence.
According to Charania, Wiggins is expected to attend (but not play in) the team’s Tuesday game against the Thunder. Charania also added that “the Warriors have given Wiggins complete space and freedom to deal with his family matter.”
The Warriors are barely hanging on to the 6th seed, with several teams breathing down their neck.
Wiggins will surely help their chances to avoid the play in tournament if he can come back and play in the season’s final few games.
Even more importantly, if he is healthy and in suitable headspace, it will give the Warriors at least a puncher’s chance at defending their title. The West, no pun intended, is the Wild Wild West, and several teams believe if their health holds up, they can make it to the NBA Finals.
The Warriors starting five, when healthy, is considered one of the best in basketball.
