This has to be one of the most unfortunate of chances. What are the odds that a stray bullet hits you right in the chest from about four-hundred yards away, while you’re in the middle of a baseball game? That’s unfortunately what happened to 18-year-old Matthew Delaney, a Texas A&M-Texarkana baseball players.
ESPN’s Dave Wilson wrote an article providing details on the incident:
“Demarco Banks, 20, who police believe was one of the shooters, turned himself in on charges of deadly conduct. The police are still searching for Kamauri Butler, 17, who is believed to be the other gunman. He is wanted on a warrant for aggravated assault.
Officers also arrested Yankeengea Smith, 49, for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and two counts of possession of a controlled substance, Nathan Moore, 19, for tampering with evidence and possession of marijuana and Marcell Beaver, 19, for possession of marijuana.”
The Texarkana police department made a post on their official Facebook Page:
“We have a felony warrant for Kamauri Butler (17) for Aggravated Assault and Demarco Banks (20) for Deadly Conduct. We believe that they are the shooters in this incident.
We initially received several calls of shots fired on Lynda Street, which is in the neighborhood just west of Spring Lake Park. Moments later, we received a 911 call that a baseball player at the park had collapsed and may have been shot. We were able to almost immediately determine that the two incidents were related, so as some officers were at the ball field rendering aid to the victim, other officers were on Lynda Street looking for any evidence and witnesses.”
Since then, the police department their post with the latest information on 20-year-old Demarco Banks. Banks reportedly turned himself in overnight. He was soon booked into the Bi-State Jail. Really glad this young man is now in stable condition, and is now on the mend. Continued prayers sent out to him and his family, as I hope to hear that he’s back on his feet again soon.
