WWE Superstar Roman Reigns has managed to do what no superstar has managed to do in the modern era: reach 1000 days as champion. Of those 1000 days, over 400 of them were as WWE Champion – which is close to eclipsing the 434 day record set by former WWE Superstar CM Punk many years ago. Amazing how that record has stood the test of time for so long.
Friday Night Smackdown hosts Roman Reigns’ 1000 Day Celebration. What makes this in-ring event more exciting than other events that preceded it, is that there’s reports of Roman Reigns potentially receiving a brand new WWE Universal Championship belt. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com reported the news this week, with the full story up on the Fightful Select website:
“We’re told that as of that creative, there were also memos that mentioned ‘New WWE Universal Championship’ on it. There is set to be a podium, where the ‘New WWE Universal Championship’ would be unveiled to the world.”
It’s been speculated by fans for what feels like the longest time, but it’s possible we finally the two titles merging into one now that the new World Heavyweight Championship belt is on Monday Night RAW.
Roman took to Twitter to post this about his upcoming celebration:
“Tough times made me the Tribal Chief I am today. The Greatest of All Time. ☝🏽000 days as the undisputed best in the world! #AcknowledgeMe #SmackDown”
Reigns won the Universal Championship by defeating previous champion “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman, who Reigns pinned, in a triple threat match at Payback on August 30, 2020. Since then, Roman has beaten various superstars such as John Cena, Jey Uso, Drew McIntyre, Cesaro, Bryan Danielson (formerly known as Daniel Bryan), Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Brock Lesnar, and recently added Cody Rhodes to that list.
If it turns out to be true, let’s hope the WWE doesn’t take a step back with this new title.
