Shannon Sharpe leaving Undisputed will change the feel of morning sports media as we know it. Even if it were less than ten years, Skip & Shannon put together a product that was almost always must see.
As the search continues to fill the void left behind by Sharpe on FS1’s “Undisputed”, a name reportedly has emerged as a potential candidate, amidst their annual summer hiatus, to take the seat opposite of 71-year-old Skip Bayless.
The aforementioned candidate is none other than ex-NFL cornerback, and former Super Bowl champion, Richard Sherman. Sherman being named as a candidate isn’t all that surprising, if you’ve followed their media career and know that they have a rapport together. Albeit it was over ten years ago, Sherman and Bayless have worked together on ESPN’s “First Take” before.
What exactly does that dynamic look like? The New York Post sheds some light on that matter here:
“Sherman, then a player and a guest on the program, told Bayless to “address me as All-Pro Stanford graduate.”
Sherman added that Bayless “had never accomplished anything.”
Bayless shot back that he had “accomplished more in [media]” than Sherman had in football.
Sherman returned fire that he was named All-Pro, meaning he was one of the best 22 at what he does, and didn’t believe Bayless was in the first 22 at anything.
In terms of what hot-takes shows are striving for, it was good TV.
There are apparently no hard feelings as sources witnessed Sherman and Bayless meeting at the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills on Wednesday about the idea of teaming up.”
It’ll be interesting to see how things pan out on that show, should Sherman end up taking that seat. Viewership will likely not be the same, let alone any better, than when Sharpe was there. Except for the core fans, thousands of people have not only voiced their support of the Hall of Famer, but also voiced their discontent with Bayless over how he allegedly treated him over the past couple of years.
