Jaylen Nowell, a shooting guard, will most likely be with a new team in 2023–24 after spending the previous four seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
According to a source, his time with the Wolves is coming to an end, and it appears that the Dallas Mavericks are one team to keep an eye on for the 24-year-old.
“No, he’s not coming back to the Wolves,” Timberwolves insider Darren Wolfson said of Nowell. “There’s a mutual understanding that, ‘Hey, time for Jaylen to move on.’ But here’s a new team in on Jaylen Nowell: the Dallas Mavericks . They need to create some roster flexibility, they are looking into doing some stuff is the word and it may not come to fruition. But Jaylen Nowell is on Dallas’ radar. The Nowell camp is still also awaiting finality on the Damian Lillard situation.”
Since being selected by the Wolves in 2019, Nowell has spent his whole career with them. In the current offseason, he is an unrestricted free agent.
The former second-round pick had a 2022–23 season scoring average of 10.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.0 assists while shooting 44.8 percent from the field. Despite making only 28.9% of his 3-point tries, it’s important to note that he had a respectable 3-point shooting percentage of 39.4% in 2021–22.
Despite the fact that James Harden and Damian Lillard’s trade scenarios seem to be taking up much of the NBA world’s attention, there are still some top-notch free agents available.
All of those players have the potential to benefit NBA teams everywhere. At this point in the summer, it may seem a little surprising that there are still so many productive players available, but that is the way the 2023 offseason has played out across the league.
The Washington native will undoubtedly make a move, and if it’s to Dallas, he’ll have the opportunity to play for a squad that’s a bit of a wild card going into the 2023–24 season. Although the Mavericks have the quality to be a threat in the Western Conference (guys like Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving), their star backcourt needs to show that it is successful before people start to believe in it.
Nowell, who has started 181 of his 184 career games off the bench, would give Dallas depth and maybe lengthen the team’s rotation. What his NBA future holds will only become clear with time.
