Deandre Ayton Shows Off “DominAyton” Chain With Lakers Down 0-3

Deandre Ayton, the Los Angeles Lakers’ starting center, posted video of his new custom “DominAyton” diamond chain on social media Monday, drawing widespread attention even as the Lakers sit one loss from elimination in the Western Conference semifinals.

The flashy iced-out piece, featuring a play on Ayton’s name and the word “dominate,” was first highlighted by jeweler accounts and quickly reposted by accounts including Bleacher Report and ClutchPoints. The timing has sparked sharp online commentary: the Lakers trail the Oklahoma City Thunder 0-3 after a Game 3 loss in which Ayton struggled to secure rebounds.

During the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game at Crypto.com Arena, cameras captured Lakers coach JJ Redick reacting visibly after Ayton gave up consecutive offensive rebounds. Redick returned to the bench and was overheard telling an assistant, “I can’t play him,” according to multiple reports and broadcast audio. ESPN’s Doris Burke also expressed frustration on the call.

Ayton, acquired by the Lakers before the season and hyped internally with custom “Crunk Juice” water bottles and lion-themed T-shirts to boost his confidence, has started in the playoffs but has yet to dominate the glass or impose himself consistently against Oklahoma City’s front line. The Thunder lead the series and can close it out in Game 4 on Tuesday night.

Social media reaction on X was swift and pointed, mixing disbelief at the chain’s bravado with criticism of Ayton’s play.

“This nigga deandre ayton has nerve in the midst of bring down 3-0 to go buy a new chain that says ‘dominayton’ and he’s been a full 6 pack of ass,” one user wrote.

Another posted: “Lakers on the verge of potentially getting swept and he’s showing off a new chain called ‘DominAyton.’ Some people just can’t read the room, huh?”

A third user noted: “The Lakers are currently down 0-3 with the last game of the season tonight. Former 1st overall pick ‘DominAyton’ has not in fact, been Dominant.”

Others took a lighter tone but still jabbed at the optics. “Deandre Ayton really got a ‘DominAyton’ chain like he’s the final boss of offensive rebounds,” one commenter wrote alongside the video.

Redick, speaking to reporters after Game 3, downplayed the bench moment and reiterated his belief in Ayton’s importance to the group when playing at his best. The 27-year-old center was a first-overall draft pick known for his size and skill but has faced questions about consistency and motor throughout his career.

The chain reveal comes amid a season in which the Lakers have leaned on Ayton to anchor the paint while dealing with injuries elsewhere in the rotation. Whether the flashy jewelry motivates a strong showing in a potential elimination game remains to be seen.
