NBA veteran Klay Thompson allegedly described his ex-girlfriend Megan Thee Stallion as too loud and ghetto for him, according to sources close to the Dallas Mavericks forward who spoke to the Daily Mail.
The claims surfaced Friday in reports from the Daily Mail, offering new details on the breakup that the Grammy-winning rapper publicly confirmed months earlier after accusing Thompson of cheating.
Thompson, 36, and Megan Thee Stallion, 30, went public with their relationship last summer. They made their red carpet debut at the Pete & Thomas Foundation Gala, shared workouts, golf dates and other outings before the split.
In late April, Megan Thee Stallion posted on Instagram that Thompson had her “around your whole family playing house,” got “cold feet,” and questioned whether he could be monogamous after she supported him through “HORRIBLE mood swings” during the basketball season. According to the sources cited in the new reports, Thompson had his own list of frustrations. One insider claimed he privately complained: “She was just so ghetto. I was over the ghettoness. The way she speaks, the way she acts.” The same source said Thompson felt “abandoned” by Megan’s busy schedule. “He went to all of these places to support her, and then when he was off over summer, she was nowhere to be found. He felt like she never made an effort,” the source said. “He definitely liked her at first, but after a while that faded.”
Additional alleged gripes included Megan frequently talking about the 2020 Tory Lanez shooting incident, with one source claiming Thompson said she “would not shut the f— up about [Lanez].” He also reportedly disliked her large security detail and entourage even in remote locations and her habit of posting about their dates on social media, as Thompson is described as more private and introverted.
A second source pushed back on parts of the account, saying discussions about Lanez were rare and only happened when false narratives circulated online. The source called it hypocritical for Thompson to complain about her work ethic, noting both are public figures who travel frequently, and said he always knew she was not a stay-at-home partner.
The reports have fueled heated online debate. Some fans have called the language used by the sources disrespectful or reflective of respectability politics, while others have pointed to the couple’s contrasting personalities and lifestyles as the real issue. Neither Thompson nor Megan Thee Stallion has publicly addressed these specific allegations.
Thompson has previously defended Megan against other public criticism during their relationship. The pair’s romance reportedly included discussions of a future together, with Thompson said to have purchased a larger home with plans for the couple.
