Blake Griffin’s Return Is Supposedly Being Considered by the Boston Celtics

As they get ready for the upcoming 2023–24 NBA season, the Boston Celtics find themselves at a pivotal point. Only 11 guaranteed contracts are on the roster, and the team’s front management is carefully weighing its alternatives with two available positions to fill. The thought of veteran forward Blake Griffin coming back is an intriguing one.

Griffin was a minor contributor on the court last season, but his leadership and upbeat demeanor in the locker room make him a valuable asset. Griffin’s per-game stat line was as follows: 4.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.3 steals, and 0.2 blocks. Due to his hustle play and leadership, he soon rose to the top of the fan list. Gryphon, a former all-star whose on-court skills have deteriorated recently due to injury, started 16 games and made appearances in a total of 41 games.

According to Bobby Manning of CLNS, there is still a chance that Griffin will join the Celtics: “I’ve heard the door remains open for his return despite the distance from family and his home on the west coast. Given that he mulled his options until October last year, it’s worth assuming he’ll follow a similarly deliberative process this summer.”

Griffin was signed by the Celtics in October of last year, and they might do it again. The six-time All-Star’s final destination will be exciting to see.

What Makes Blake Griffin a Good Fit for the Celtics?

Griffin was a respected voice in the locker room despite not being the dominant force he formerly was due to his knowledge of the game and experience. The younger bench players in particular responded favorably to his commitment to accountability and the tone he fostered. Together with his contagious work ethic, Griffin’s eagerness to mentor and guide the team’s up-and-coming talents contributed to the development of a supportive team dynamic.  With Marcus Smart gone, the Celtics are in desperate need of a locker room presence. As part of the Kristaps Porzingis trade, the former DPOY was sent to the Memphis Grizzlies. Losing Smart will have a significant effect, particularly on the defensive side, as he was a key force for the Celtics.

The Celtics might benefit financially from having Blake Griffin return. Griffin is qualified to sign a contract with a lower salary cap hit than younger players because he is an experienced player. Any potential financial savings would assist retain roster flexibility and balance the books given the Celtics’ already considerable payroll.
