Vanessa Bryant Announces Lakers Plan To Unveil A Statue In Honor Of Kobe Bryant

The Los Angeles Lakers have come out with an announcement that will surely warm the heats of not just their fans, but basketball fans everywhere. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the team will soon be unveiling a new bronze statue in honor of the late, and great, Kobe Bryant.

To say that this is a momentous occasion would be an understatement. Lakers owner Jeanie Buss offered up a statement, sharing a few words about Bryant and how much he’s meant to both the organization and the fans:

“Kobe Bryant was one of the most extraordinary athletes of all time, and one of the most iconic individuals in the history of Los Angeles,” Lakers owner Jeanie Buss said. “There is no better place for Kobe to be honored with a statue than here, at the center of our city, where everyone can celebrate him and be inspired by his incredible achievements.”

The statue is scheduled to be unveiled on February 8, 2024. A fitting day, as it reflects the Lakers retiring both of Bryant’s jerseys: #8 and #24. Additionally, the Lakers are scheduled to host the defending champions, the Denver Nuggets, in what was already expected to be a highly anticipated Western Conference Finals rematch.

Vanessa Bryant offered up her own words, talking about how much the team, and the city, meant to Kobe:

“As you know, Kobe played his entire 20-year NBA career as a Los Angeles Lakers,” Bryant said. “Since arriving in this city and joining the Lakers organization, he felt at home here, playing in the City of Angels. On behalf of the Lakers, my daughters and me, I am so honored that, right in the center of Los Angeles, in front of the place known as the house Kobe built, we are going to unveil his statue so that his legacy can be celebrated forever.”

Gone, but never forgotten. Rest in peace, Kobe.
