A large number of players from both teams engaged in violence during one of the several college football games that were played on Saturday, forcing the game to be called early. Delta State University travelled to Chowan University for the 2023 season’s first home game in the D-II Gulf Southern Conference.
Before things went ugly, Delta State University was having little trouble, leading 42-18 in the final ten minutes of the fourth quarter. After a sustained run by Delta State running back Tamaj Hoffman, he was shoved out of bounds, but things quickly turned violent with punches flying and helmets being used as weapons. According to foolscoop.com,
“While both the visiting Statesmen and home-standing Hawks jostled with one another, grainy video from the game’s online broadcast appeared to show a player repeatedly striking another player with a helmet..”

Since the outcome of the game had already been decided, the referees chose to end the brawl.
This is really outlandish behavior, and it will undoubtedly have serious consequences such as player dismissals, suspensions, and perhaps even assault charges for the person who was swinging the helmet.
