Chandler Jones, a pass rusher for the Las Vegas Raiders, has been listed on the team’s non-football illness list and will be absent indefinitely as he deals with a personal matter, according to a report from NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport on Wednesday.
Prior to this month, Jones did not practice and was inactive for the first two games of the season. Jones’ absence was mentioned on September 6 by Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels. During his first season in Las Vegas, Jones recorded 4.5 sacks in 15 games for the Raiders.
After writing a string of odd social media posts criticizing Raiders owner Mark Davis, general manager Dave Ziegler, and head coach Josh McDaniels, Jones made the roster change.
When asked by reporters earlier on Wednesday if there was any resolution with Jones, McDaniels would to provide any details, continuing the organization’s stance that it was a personal concern. According to ESPN, McDaniels said,
“Again, there’s nothing,”
“I can’t do anything about it at this point. So, we’re just respecting that process and understand the situation, and that’s really all I can say about it.”
Chandler Jones’s Social Media fiascos
Over the Labour Day weekend, Jones made his first appearance on social media, ranting on his Instagram story against Ziegler and McDaniels while claiming to have been expelled from the Raiders’ facility.
The posts were ultimately taken down, but among the complaints was that the team had been in touch with the mother of one of his kids, with whom he said he was no longer in a relationship, and that ‘they won’t let me in the building’.
Another message said, “F–k it, I don’t want to play for the Raiders if that’s my [head coach] or [general manager],”
This past weekend, things took an even stranger turn when he claimed he was the victim of hacking in the wake of a series of posts on X, formerly Twitter, in which he accused the Raiders of keeping him away from the team because a family friend’s kid was being molested and the team was attempting to conceal it.
“Sorry for the mix up. I was hacked. Please forgive me,” Jones wrote in a Monday post.
