Deion Sanders has revealed how he kept throwing shades at his own son during a game versus Colorado State. Deion is definitely the kind of coach who doesn’t joke around when it comes to making sure his team wins and even if he has to throw shades at his own son to win the game, he wouldn’t mind doing so.
Deion Sanders has never been afraid to call out his children.
Sanders has two jobs on the Colorado sideline: Coach and Dad. He is very good at dealing with them both.
The Buffaloes head coach shared a hilarious story about handling both tasks at once this season in an interview on Inside the NFL this week.
His story comes from a matchup with Colorado State in Week 3 as the teams got ready to head into overtime. Shilo Sanders, a safety for the Buffaloes, asked Deion Sanders whether they’d be on defense or offense first. However, when he did so, he broke a rule Deion had set for his two sons. When they are on the sidelines, Shilo and Shedeur Sanders are supposed to call Deion Sanders “Coach” rather than “Dad.”
“Shilo walked by me and instead of saying “Coach”… he said ‘Dad, [is] the defense going out on the field first?’ and I said ‘Boy, y’all ain’t stopped nobody all day! I’m putting your brother out there, because I know what he’s [going to] do,” Deion Sanders recalls.
The move ultimately paid off as quarterback Shedeur Sanders led the Buffaloes’ offense in a five-play scoring drive before Colorado State scored its own touchdown. He would then lead another scoring drive in the second overtime before the Colorado defense finally got a stop for the win.
This game was best remembered as the last one Travis Hunter played in since he suffered a lacerated liver after taking a late hit.
The team would go on to lose two-straight games to USC and Oregon before they finally stopped the skid with a victory over Arizona State this past weekend.
For the season, Shilo has 32 total tackles, one forced fumble, and one interception returned for a touchdown.
Apparently, Deion Sanders was expecting his son to refer to him as “coach” but instead he called him dad and that wasn’t cool with him.
