In Sunday’s Week 12 road defeat to the Tennessee Titans, rookie Jonathan Mingo of the Carolina Panthers appears not to have tried to stay in bounds upon receiving a ball from Bryce Young, according to a startling new video.
As Mingo tries to avoid a sack, Young makes a beautiful ball to him on the sidelines in the video below. It went incomplete, though, as Mingo was unable to make the catch despite having no defender close to him.
According to some onlookers, Mingo didn’t even appear to be attempting to stay inside the lines in order to finish the catch:
This looks really bad…. #Panthers rookie 2nd round receiver Jonathan Mingo REFUSED to catch the ball in bounds

ball is thrown to a spot that he should stop at so he can stay in bounds lol

his contract must be giving him incentives to have less than a certain amount of receptions this year

It was a wasted opportunity, though, for a Panthers squad that has had difficulty producing much of an offensive output this season. Carolina’s season ended with a 17-10 loss to Tennessee, keeping them as the worst football team in the league.
Owner David Tepper dismissed head coach Frank Reich on Monday. Chris Tabor, coordinator of special teams, was named head coach in an acting capacity. Tepper has changed the team’s coaching staff during the season for the third time in the last five years.
Carolina was hoping Reich, a well-known offensive mastermind, would ease Young’s adjustment to the NFL. With only 61.7 percent of pass attempts completed for 1,877 yards and nine touchdowns versus eight interceptions, the Alabama graduate has had little success and a lot of learning pains.
