Houston Rockets Defend Home Turf, Beat Cold-Shooting Nuggets

The Rockets wasted no time in asserting their dominance, establishing a commanding 17-0 run in the first quarter that resulted in a substantial 36-19 lead. Their offensive firepower, combined with a stifling defense, left the Nuggets struggling to find their rhythm and shooting touch. The second quarter witnessed the Rockets continuing their relentless assault, expanding their lead to a formidable 56-32.

Although the Nuggets showed signs of life in the second half, mounting a spirited 14-0 run to narrow the gap to 84-75 with nine minutes remaining, the Rockets quickly extinguished any hopes of a miraculous comeback. Alperen Sengun, who notched an impressive double-double with 21 points, 15 rebounds, and eight assists, responded with a crucial layup that ignited a decisive sequence for the Rockets.

Sengun’s offensive rebound paved the way for an assist to Jalen Green, who converted a layup while drawing a foul for a three-point play. Green, who led the Rockets’ scoring with 25 points, then sealed the victory in emphatic fashion with a pair of thunderous transition dunks.

The Rockets’ supporting cast also played a pivotal role in securing the victory. Jabari Smith Jr. contributed a double-double of his own with 16 points and 15 rebounds, while Fred VanVleet showcased his playmaking prowess with 17 points and 11 assists.

Despite a heroic performance from Nikola Jokic, who amassed an astonishing 38 points, 19 rebounds, and eight assists for the Nuggets, their offense struggled to find consistency elsewhere. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope added 20 points to the scoreboard, and Michael Porter Jr. contributed 14 points and seven rebounds. However, the Nuggets’ starting duo of Reggie Jackson and Aaron Gordon endured a nightmarish shooting performance, combining for a mere four points on a dismal 1-for-20 shooting.

The Rockets’ victory not only showcased their offensive firepower and defensive tenacity but also highlighted their ability to maintain an unyielding homecourt advantage. The win extends their impressive home winning streak, solidifying their position as a formidable force in the tournament.
